About

Magic Death Eye equipment is made by Ian Sefchick (me) in Burbank California. I started recording music in high school on a Tascam Porta One 4 track cassette recorder. That led to a music career fronting the band Creeper Lagoon in the late 90’s. Creeper Lagoon was signed to DreamWorks records and I worked with producers and engineers such as Jerry Harrison, Mark Endert, Dave Fridmann, Greg Wells, and Mark Trombino. In addition to learning how to write songs in high school I also learned to build tube guitar amps and eventually went to Cincinnati Technical College for engineering. Fast forward to 2009 and I was working as a studio technician at the historic Capitol Studios in Hollywood. I spent years learning the ins and outs of all the vintage equipment Capitol had. During this time I built 4 custom compressors for the mastering department and many custom pieces of gear for the the house engineers and guest engineers such as Niko Bolas, Chad Franscoviak, Jon Brion, Greg Koller, and Al Schmitt. As a result to the overwhelmingly positive response, Magic Death Eye was born. This equipment is the result of a life’s work in music and simply stunning in looks and sound.
Currently my day job is mastering at Capitol and cutting lacquers for vinyl on a Neumann VMS66 lathe.
